Relay For Life - 2012

We were all set on March 3rd and 4th for our 24 hour Relay For Life to be held at Farndon Park Clive. However, on Friday morning the anticipated weather conditions for the weekend, which included gale-force winds, meant a complete re-think.  Thankfully we were able to move the event to a new venue at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park where the stadium and all-weather track could be utilised.  Yes, we did shorten the event to 10 hours and we no longer erected tents, but all in all the event went ahead with a great deal of enthusiasm and success.

There were so many volunteers and groups who really went out of their way to accommodate the new programme and at such short notice.

 The Cancer Society is so grateful to everyone who ensured the success of this event.  The Napier host Lions club, together with assistance from other local Lions clubs cooked a fantastic evening meal for everyone, rather different from the early morning breakfast. 

 The team members really rose to the occasion and braved the elements to ‘walk the track’ and I really would like to commend them.  Saturday afternoon was rather unpleasant with strong gusts of wind and rain but this didn’t daunt them.
