Getting through treatment

  

Community Liaison Nursing Service

Our Community Liaison Nurses based in Whangarei, Opua and Kaitaia offer support to people throughout Northland who have been recently diagnosed or who are receiving treatment for cancer.

 

Our experienced oncology nurses provide home visits, telephone support and information to people with cancer to help them manage throughout their treatment.

How can a Community Liaison Nurse help?

Throughout treatment your nurse stays in touch by visiting and phoning at times that suit you. Your nurse will:

  • Listen to the concerns and questions that are most important for you and your whanau and work with you to find solutions
  • Help you understand your cancer and its treatment
  • Help you manage cancer symptoms and treatment side effects
  • Offer understanding and emotional support
  • Explain the hospital system and what to expect
  • Advocate on your behalf to other health professionals involved in your treatment to help your care progress smoothly
  • Refer you to other Cancer Society support services
  • Put you in touch with and refer you to other useful services
  • Help with practical problems like getting to treatment and accessing financial support

Our Liaison Nursing Service is available from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
