Accommodation in Auckland during cancer care

  

Domain Lodge

The Cancer Society's Domain Lodge is proud to offer a home away from home for people with cancer who have to travel from Northland for treatment or cancer care in Auckland.

Conveniently located accross the road from the Auckland City Treatment Centre, Domain Lodge is a modern building set in beautiful gardens.The atmosphere is relaxed with friendly and understanding staff and guests are free to come and go as they please. 

Domain Lodge is also home to the Cancer Society Auckland and our range of support services.

While priority is given to people with cancer, Domain Lodge is also open to the public. Income earned from guests helps us provide fully subsidised accommodation for people with cancer.

Who can stay at Domain Lodge?

  • Adult cancer patients, who live in Northland or outside the 100km radius from Auckland City Hospital, are able to stay at Domain Lodge while undergoing cancer treatment and care.

  • Each patient is welcome to have one support person / caregiver stay with them providing they are able to share a room. Please note children under 18 years of age are unable to stay with patients or supporters/caregivers.

  • All patients staying at Domain Lodge need to be self caring or independent with the help of a supporter/caregiver.

Reservations and referrals

Accommodation referrals and reservations are made through hospital departments and Oncology services. Once a referral has been recieved a letter will be sent confirming your booking at Domain Lodge. Accommodation costs

Patients

Accommodation for people with cancer having treatment is provided free of charge.

Patients travelling over 100km for treatment or care may be eliglible for a Ministry of Health Travel and Accommodation subsidy. Your referring health specialist will need to complete a Travel and Accommodation Form and send it to the Ministry of Health prior to the start of treatment or care.

Supporters/Caregivers

Accommodation for supporters/caregivers is provided free of charge in most cases. However a payment of $25 per supporter/caregiver per night is required if the patient is not eligible for a Ministry of Health Travel and Acommodation subsidy.

Accommodation facilities

Domain Lodge offers studio accommodation and all are equipped with either double or twin bedrooms, and each has an ensuite along with Sky TV, telephone, radio, refrigerator and tea/coffee-making facilities.

  • Two well-appointed self-service guest kitchen/dining areas with full cooking facilities, including allocated fridge/freezer space and all the appliances you would find in your own home

  • Continental breakfasts and frozen meals on request
  • An indoor pavilion area for peace and quiet
  • Coin-operated laundries with full ironing facilities and an outdoor clothesline
  • Storage for personal items or luggage
  • Secure, free, undercover parking
  • Access facilities / lift access

Support at Domain Lodge

For Domain Lodge guests having cancer treatment or care there are a variety of support services available on site to help you during your stay.

  • Experienced cancer nurses are available to answer any questions you may have regarding your cancer and treatment
  • A team of professionally qualified counsellors and psychologists is available to help people with cancer and their whanau in adjusting to the emotional impact of cancer
  • Our specialised cancer library offers people a quiet place to find information about cancer with books carefully selected especially for people affected by cancer
