The Plainer the Better..
Plain packaging, hailed as an important step towards a smoke free Aotearoa by 2025, is the next significant public debate, according to the Cancer Society.
“With tobacco products now out of sight and the consultation on plain packaging underway, the New Zealand public needs to be aware of all the facts to engage in a robust conversation,” said the Society’s Tobacco Control Advisor, Skye Kimura.
“We have also had the good news from Australia this week regarding the High Court’s ruling that the Labour Government’s world-first plain packaging laws are constitutionally valid.”
“Together with the Heart Foundation and members of the Smokefree coalition, we have created not only a website where the facts around plain packaging are revealed, but produced a video which is a very graphic illustration of the effects of plain packaging on youngsters. http://www.youtube.com/user/plainpacksnz/

Celebrating Two Fantastic Relay For Life Events
The funds raised at these great events are used to support our community.

Relay For Life Central Otago
Relay For Life Central Otago was held on the 17th and 18th March at the Cromwell racecourse and attracted 65 teams with approximately 1065 participants taking part over the 24 hours. So far over $157,000 has been raised which is a great effort. The support of the entire community has been wonderful!
Tammy Jackman, Relay For Life Central Otago Event Manager
Relay For Life Southland
Relay For
Life Southland held March 10th and 11th saw over 1600
participate within 114 teams. Over $2060000 have been raised to date.
Personally I was really touched by seeing the commitment of individuals out on
the track, a number of whom were, themselves, going through personal
difficulties and that has given me the most meaning to the reason behind Relay
For Life.
Throughout the months of preparation for Relay For Life, and the Relay itself, I really enjoyed the enthusiasm, positive feedback and the fun I had with my association with the Southland community.
Debbie Jamieson, Relay For Life Southland Event Coordinator
