Support Services
The Support Services offered by the Cancer Society centre around assisting people with a cancer diagnosis to navigate the cancer ‘journey’. Our Support Coordinator can assist you with information, advice, and link you up with various other support services. She can also act as your advocate when dealing with health professionals, work and Income or any other service providers. Breast Cancer Support Service (BCSS)
This service provides one on one support for women recently diagnosed with breast cancer, from other women who have 'been there'. for more information click here
Carer Relief Volunteers
We have a network of volunteer support people who are available to stay with the person with cancer to enable the full time carer to have time out to do shopping / visiting etc. Volunteers who work with the Society come from all walks of life and have received specialised training. They are available to assist by sitting with patients and relieving caregivers, providing transport, doing shopping etc.
Support Groups
A number of support groups including groups for breast cancer, general cancer, and prostate cancer are available through the Centre. For more details click here
Counselling
Counselling services are offered to patients and families of those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Our counsellor offers confidential, safe and supportive listening. Counselling can help with coming to terms with the psychological and emotional impact of cancer - from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. It can also bring to the fore the skills you already have and assist you to develop new skills and ways of coping.
Complementary Therapies
Reiki is offered at the TSB Cancer Support Centre by a qualified practitioner. The first 3 sessions are free for anyone undergoing cancer treatment. To make an appointment contact the centre on (06) 757 3006. Click here to download a Reiki information sheet
Oncology Massage is also offered at the TSB Cancer Support Centre by a qualified therapist. The first two sessions are free to those who are undergoing treatment for cancer, or who have had treatment in the last two years. These sessions are available every 2nd Friday morning. Look Good Feel Better
Look Good Feel Better is a free service to help women with cancer offset appearance-related changes from treatment. For more details click here
Transport
Volunteer drivers are available to drive patients to appointments and for other special requirements.
We also operate a shuttle service that travels twice weekly to and from the cancer treatment centre in Palmerston North. For full details on the transport assistance offered please click here
