Cancer Connect
If you or someone you care for has been diagnosed with cancer, and you would like to talk to someone who has been through a similar experience the Cancer Society can help.
- Cancer Connect NZ is a free support service that offers a listening ear, practical information and the chance to talk to a person who's experienced what you may be facing.
- Is available to anyone with a primary cancer diagnosis who could benefit from talking to someone who has a had a similar experience or treatment, to dicuss issues in common.
- Is also available to caregivers.
- Access is by self referral, via the Information Helpline, Cancer Society staff or other allied health professionals.
- The Cancer Connect Co-ordinator receives your contact details, age, diagnosis, reason for the request and preferred time of day for a call
- You are 'matched' with a volunteer or informed that a match is not possible within a week.
- The Cancer Connect Co-ordinator contacts the volunteer that best fits the client and passes on the relevant information.
- The selected volunteer contacts you for an agreed contact period.
- On completion of the contact period, you are made aware of how to re-contact the service.
