Transport

Patient Transport

Shuttle Service

The Taranaki Centre provides a shuttle service to and from the treatment centre in Palmerston North.  The shuttle runs on Mondays & Fridays and on Wednesdays when required.  The shuttle picks up patients and their caregivers on Monday from all centres in Taranaki and takes them to Ozanam House. The shuttle departure times are based on patient appointments – we make sure we are in Palmerston North in time for the earliest appointment on Mondays, and leave after the last appointment on Fridays.  The service is funded by the Ministry of Health and is free.  Caregivers are also welcome to travel.  To book a place on the shuttle please contact the Centre on 06 757 3006, or email us

Volunteer Drivers

If you do not have your own transport and are currently undergoing cancer treatment, volunteer drivers are available to drive you to appointments at Taranaki Base and Hawera hospitals.  They will also do drives to the supermarket, doctors and for other special requirements. Please contact the Support Coordinator for more information.

Travel Assistance

If you need to use your own car to travel to and from treatment and you have a Community Services Card, you may be entitled to assistance
with travel costs. This is a national Ministry of Health scheme.
Please visit: http://www.moh.govt.nz/travelassistance or phone 0800 281 222  for more information, or application and claim forms.
