2008 Annual Report

The 2008 Annual Report covers the activities of the Wellington Division and its Centres around the region during the financial year of 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008.  Copies can be downloaded or requested by calling 04 389 8421 or emailing info@cancersoc.org.nz.

Key highlights from 2007/2008

• $589,881 was granted for research into all forms of cancer.

• The Medical Library at the Wellington School of Medicine continued to receive financial support with a grant of $30,142.

• $904,224 went towards the support of cancer patients and their families.

• Margaret Stewart House accommodated 4,056 bed nights occupied over the year by patients and support persons.

• 1,910 Patient Information Packs were distributed to people newly-diagnosed with cancer.

• Cancer Information Nurses responded to 1,766 enquiries by phone, email, online, face to face to the Cancer Information Service.

• Volunteer drivers drove patients to over 3,588 appointments and covered approximately 229,509 kilometres to achieve this.

• Grants were made to 2 public health professionals to further their professional education by attending conferences, both local and overseas, and training courses.

• Community grants totalling $6,000 were made to assist community groups promote healthy lifestyle messages.

• $622,638 was spent on cancer prevention and early detection.

• Legacies amounting to $815,833 were received from 19 estates.

• $28,730 was donated "In Remembrance".
