CT Collins Scholarship

CANCER SOCIETY NEW ZEALAND WTGN. DIVISION CT COLLINS  SCHOLARSHIP

OBJECTS:

The C T Collins Research Training Scholarship is to allow a student to undertake  cancer related research/study leading to a Doctorate in Philosophy from a New Zealand University. The successful applicant will be selected on the basis of   his/her potential for a career in cancer research and will be a full time student or ½ time equivalent.

University study must primarily be undertaken within the Wellington region which includes Marlborough, Nelson and the Wairarapa.

The recipient of the Scholarship would be required to acknowledge receipt of the Scholarship in all publications resulting from the student’s research.

DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP:

The award is for two years, in the first instance, extendable to three years subject to annual review and satisfactory evidence of progress.

APPLICATION AND AWARD:

Applications must be made through the Head of the Department in which the Fellow will be accommodated. Ten copies of the application are required, the original being on the CSNZ application form,  available from our website.

And the remaining copies being reproduced on (A4) paper by any suitable copying system. The Scholarship will normally be taken up within twelve months of the date of award.

There are no set dates for applications which will be considered at the next meeting of the Medical & Scientific Committee. (The recommendations of that committee will be referred on the next meeting of the Executive Committee) after which candidates will be notified of the result.

VALUE:

The stipend is equivalent to that of a University Scholarship, currently $25,000 p.a. or pro rata equivalent and payments can commence as soon as the successful applicant has registered for a Doctorate in Philosophy.

EXPENSES GRANT:

The Scholarship carries with it a grant sufficient to cover appropriate University fees.

SUSPENSION:

The Cancer Society may, in its discretion, for what is considered grave cause, suspend the tenure of a Scholarship at such times as thought fit, or deprive a Fellow of their Scholarship and from that date the emoluments or other payments shall cease.

The candidate will be informed in writing of this decision.

APPLICATIONS: 

Applications are not currently being sought. The CT Collins scholarship is not likely to be offered again until 2014.
