Community grants to supply free sunscreen, at community events, are sometimes available on application.
Equipment available
• Gazebos
• Sun umbrellas / stands / sandscrews
• SunSmart flags
• Sunscreen stands
Criteria

• book well in advance (as there is heavy demand)
• Obtain a Shade Loan application form
• The event must be Smokefree
Tips for holding a SunSmart event
• Schedule events to avoid the middle of the day, as 60% of the day's UV radiation occurs between 11am ¬ 4pm during daylight saving months.
• Announcements over the public address system should include sun protection reminders, especially early in the day to allow participants to protect themselves.
• Mention the importance of sun protection in event publicity and literature, such as flyers stickers and programmes.
• Encourage officials and marshals to role model SunSmart behaviour this involves wearing a hat with wide brims, wear a long sleeve shirt and SPF30+ broad spectrum sunscreen.
• Arrange to have a supply of SPF 30+ sunscreen available ( your organsation may be eligible for some free sunscreen)
