The Cancer Society has been one of the major players in the development of tobacco control in New Zealand and it is a key part of our public health work.
Out of Sight - Out of MindWe work to reduce smoking rates through advocacy for legislative and policy changes and through public education. If you want to get involved in our Smokefree Campaigns. Tobacco marketing is a proven risk factor for young people starting smoking. A part of such marketing is the displays of tobacco packets and cartons in shops. The Cancer Society is campaigning for legislation to remove such displays so that all tobacco products are 'below the counter'. More... |

Quit Smoking for a Better LifeThe Cancer Society is working with social services including the New Zealand Federation of Family Budgeting Services, Housing New Zealand and Pathways to develop innovative projects aimed at reaching high needs groups such as low income groups and Mental Health consumers. A number of initiatives have formed part of this programme including ther development of resources ('Quit smoking for the ones you love'), the launching of the Quit Smoking website and the participation in and running of Capacity building workshops.
