Help for You

We support people with cancer, their family/whanau and friends. A range of services are provided by the regional divisions and centres.

Living Well Programme

Living Well is a free cancer information and support programme that offers practical ways of supporting people affected by cancer to build knowledge, self-confidence and self-help skills. It is open to people with a cancer diagnosis, carers and whanau. Small groups are led by a trained facilitator and attendance is free.

The topics covered include:

  • what cancer is
  • the effects of treatment
  • eating well
  • relaxation and relieving stress
  • looking after yourself
  • communicating with your health care team
  • dealing with family stress
  • where to next?

Enrol in a Living Well programme now to:

  • get expert information on your cancer
  • feel in control
  • learn practical ways of living well
  • find others in a similar situation.

Cancer Information Helpline

0800 CANCER (226 237)

The Cancer Information Helpline is a free service, Monday to Friday (9-5pm) with an out-of-hours office answer-phone. Your call will be answered by an experienced cancer nurse who can help you, or someone you care about, understand any type of cancer and treatment, talk with others or find support. You can call as often as you choose and confidentiality is guaranteed. Find out more about the Helpline as people share their experience of using this service.

Cancer Information is Available

We provide a telephone support, booklets, pamphlets, DVDs, signposting to credible internet sites and a Cancer Information Helpline 0800 CANCER (226 237) staffed by nurses.

Support for You and Others

You can talk with trained nurses, counsellors, psychologists or a person who has had a similar experience to you. There is a range of support groups, programmes, workshops, seminars and online forum available.

Kia Ora - E te iwi

Are you interested in offering a kaupapa Maori cancer support programme delivered to Maori by Maori?

The Cancer Society of New Zealand has been working collaboratively with Iwi and Maori Health Providers from around Aotearoa to develop a Kaupapa Maori programme to be delivered to Maori by Maori.  We hope you will be interested in providing Kia ora - E te iwi for your whanau.
