Health Promoter/Health Educator - Gisborne

The Cancer Society Central Districts Division is recruiting for its Health Promotion (Health Education) programme in Gisborne.

The Cancer Society’s mission is to improve community wellbeing by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer.

About the role:

This is a permanent part time position of 25 hrs/week - so the successful candidate can enjoy work-life balance enjoying all the East Coast has to offer. 

We’re looking for a team member passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of the Tairāwhiti community.

The successful candidate will be joining a small energetic and dedicated team in the Gisborne Centre.

It is the Cancer Society’s mission to be the leading organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in our community through the provision of health promotion, support services, advocacy and research.

The purpose of the role is to:-

• Facilitate community health improvement that delivers Cancer Society of NZ policy, programmes/projects to reduce the incidence of cancer and improve community health and wellbeing.
• Partner with community groups to build opportunities to raise community cancer health literacy for people to be informed and have greater access to cancer prevention and risk reduction, education, and early detection services.
• To work closely with other sectors to create or advocate for environments that enable people, families and whānau to enjoy healthier lifestyles.

The ideal candidate will be able to easily build relationships and can connect with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds and have outstanding community and business networks.

You’ll have exceptional planning, task and time management skills, have an eye for detail and demonstrate a high level of ownership and commitment to achieving results.  You will also use effective methods to determine priorities, set goals, create a plan, take action and measure results.

The ability to combine effective approaches from various disciplines to develop community based initiatives and mobilize resources is also a plus.
